SODIS (SOLAR water disinfection)

SODIS is a simple environmentally sustainable, low –cost solution for drinking water treatment at household level for people consuming microbiologically contaminated.

GRACIOUS Foundation works with households, Youth groups, women groups and schools by providing them with training, Pet-bottles, water tanks and sanitation blocks upon necessity and needy.

Households

Gracious Foundation trains individuals on hygiene and water treatment method emphasizing on Solar Water Disinfection (SODIS) water treatment method. We distribute bottles for water treatment after training and ask them to acquire the normal bottles similar to the ones provided as a way of them sustaining the treatment of water.

Schools

We are working with schools on our WASH program. We train the children and advocate for SODIS method of water treatment at school level. We train them to become ambassadors of water treatment and general hygiene. Most of these trainings are done through the health clubs in the schools and we use these clubs to benefit the whole school. Some schools have also benefited from sanitation blocks and water tanks as part of ensuring that WASH is fully implemented in the schools.

Groups

Gracious Foundation works with marginalized groups (both youth groups and women groups), training them on financial literacy as well as entrepreneurship skills. The organization also has a long term mechanism for the access to micro-finance to enhance their lives. Some of the trained groups have benefited from WASH program getting sanitation blocks for sale, water tanks for vending of water and gadgets such as wheel barrows, gloves, dust masks and garbage collection paper bags for doing garbage collections upon requisition.

Touching a life at a time
